Ponds, Waterways and Trees

OUR PONDS & WATERWAYS
Island Woods HOA owns and is responsible for the maintenance of twelve (12) ponds, as well as connecting creeks and connecting culverts. Our ponds are fed exclusively by ground water. Due to the proximity of our ponds to homeowner landscaping, the HOA is keenly vigilant about monitoring and maintaining our waterways. Our landscape vendor maintains the pond shorelines and is cautious about the use of fertilizer and herbicides in close proximity to the ponds. Our ponds are available for all our residents to enjoy by strolling along the common area shorelines, viewing the wildlife or fishing for bass!

Homeowners can help maintain our ponds by being cognizant of:

LITTER: Avoid littering and carry a litter bag to dispose of litter as encountered.

FERTILIZER & OTHER LAWN TREATMENTS: Please do not treat the common area grass or trees, since these products end up in our ponds if spread too close. Sufficient fertilizer reaches these areas from homeowner lawn runoff. Please do not attempt to treat pond algae. Rather, report excessive to Sentry or to the Board.

VEHICLE MAINTENANCE: Take care when washing cars to avoid excessive use of detergent and oils. This runoff ends up in our ponds as runoff from our gutters into storm drains and into our ponds.

FISHING: We invite you to enjoy fishing the ponds, however, please refer to our fishing policy by clicking HERE.

COMMON AREA TREE MAINTENANCE AND REMOVAL:

The Island Woods Board has put in place a tree maintenance program. If you have concerns about the condition of a common area tree please contact Sentry or the Board. The Board will depends on information from homeowners, as well as periodic inspections by our tree service company. We do want owners to be informed and we will attempt to post advance notice of tree trimming on the website under the LATEST NEWS update tab.
