                                             POND & WATERWAYS COMMITTEE
BOARD LIAISON  & CHAIRMAN – JOHN GLAZIER

Island Woods HOA is responsible for 12 beautiful ponds, most of which are connected by a system of canals and culverts.  Because of our close proximity to both forks of the Boise River, we are especially vigilant about how we maintain and protect our ponds and waterways.  The ponds are manicured by our landscapers and treated in a safe manner by our pond maintenance company to keep weeds and algae under control.  Our goal is to achieve a reasonable state of pond health, in order that our residents can enjoy the beauty of the ponds during our changing seasons and have access to fishing during the appropriate seasons.  We encourage our residents to use the pond identification map below in order to report any concerns they may have about the condition of a pond.

Residents are tasked with being aware of how their activities negatively

impact our ponds:

DRAINAGE INTO THE PONDS:  Runoff from Island Woods’ streets drains into our ponds  and the ponds are used to  irrigate our common area lawns and gardens.

FERTILIZER & OTHER LAWN TREATMENTS:  These products can end up in our ponds through runoff into our drains, as well as close proximity to our pond shorelines.

FEEDING OF WATERFOWL:  The feeding of ducks, geese and swans can result in the spreading of disease among waterfowl and it also causes the build up of
phosphates in the ponds.  This nutrient imbalance requires extensive
treatment to restore a healthy pond balance.

LITTER AND POOL DRAINING:  Litter should be properly disposed of and chlorinated water from pools and spas must not be drained into the gutters, since this water will drain into our ponds.

VEHICLE MAINTENANCE:  The amount of car wash products used for onsite car
washing should be minimized to avoid creating a sheen of oils and soap
on our pond surfaces.

FISHING:  We invite our residents and their guests to enjoy fishing our ponds.  Residents are to wear lanyard permits and to accompany their guests while fishing.  Please review our Fishing Policy by clicking the DOCUMENTS tab.
